Hey guys, Saturday I competed in my first BJJ competition since being back in Brazil, the FJJD Rio federation’s “Qualifier 2014″. So this week on the video blog I want to share my experience from there and the vibe of a BJJ competition in Rio de Janeiro.
It was a hard competition for me because I had caught a bad cold the previous day and was on the fence about competing.
I had a small 5 man bracket and was drawn to the side of the bracket where I would only need two wins to get gold so I decided to go for it.
My opponent in the semis no showed so I went on to the finals. The guy in the finals was tough and beat his previous two opponents within a minute each, but I was able to get the better of him that day. Not the way I want to win gold as it doesn’t feel very earned, but there’ll be a next time. I decided to skip the absolute as I had absolutely no energy and just wanted to go back to the hostel and lay in bed.
All and all not too bad of a start to the competition scene here. A couple days of bed rest and I’ll be back on the mats.
